Living from Self
You may be reaching out for help because something is off. Life may be challenging, dry, or joyless. There may be a profound sense of stuckness or your relationships may be suffering. You may have an intuition that there’s more to life, and that there’s more to you as well. But you just can’t access it.
We all develop strategic ways of navigating the world and meeting our needs. This “strategic self” comes during childhood and it’s like a trance we go into under stress. We can even be here most of the time without knowing it. Ironically, our strategic self can bring great material success and recognition in our careers. But something is lacking: the strategic self can achieve goals, but it can’t create happiness.
This is quite different from the organic way of being I term “Self.” When we’re embodying our true Self we experience solidness, confidence, authority, knowing, and a general lack of inner division. We don’t have a problem with life; there’s nothing to fix and ease is the natural default. The state of being, of existing, of “I am,” is the modus operandi and we trust what life is offering.
Being a conscious, integrated person means knowing when you’re in Self and when you’re in a fragmented state. The goal is to have the ability to realize which state you’re in and consciously choose who you want to be. This is the underlying goal of my work with clients.
Working Together
From the first session, I focus on creating safety and trust in our connection together. I will meet you where you’re at while keeping an eye on deeper themes, currents, and self states. My orientation is toward the present moment and together we’ll develop mindfulness as a tool to explore your experience.
With time we’ll uncover how deeper core material shapes your perceptions of the world. We’ll also help you directly experience and embody your own unique Self. It takes work to cultivate living, loving, and leading from Self – but it also brings deep satisfaction and peace. Once you’re there, there is no other choice.
My approach is informed by Hakomi, Recreation of the Self, Non-Dual Psychology, attachment, mindfulness, neuroscience, and trauma-focused and psychodynamic approaches.
